WFIA co-hosted 2nd The Hague Masterclass on IPRs and Privacy
The Hague, 9 June – Yesterday, the WestHolland Foreign Investment Agency (WFIA) co-hosted the 2nd The Hague Masterclass for Chinese companies. The MasterClass will be a recurrent event for Chinese entrepreneurs in The Netherlands, covering a different business topic every time. The topics this time were Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Privacy.
The influence of Asian economies on The Netherlands and Europe has been on the rise in recent years and the number of Foreign Direct Investments attracted from the Pan Asian Region is still growing. IPR and Privacy are relevant to many Chinese companies given the differences in rules and regulations between China and The Netherlands. With these masterclasses, the WFIA – together with ABC and in co-operation with several service providers – aims to create further awareness among Chinese entrepreneurs on several aspects of doing business in The Netherlands.
After an introduction by Roy Fu (Regional Manager Asia WFIA), the day started with an interactive session including an associative poll, led by Mr. Wu Jia (Director Asian Business Center, ABC). The Asian Business Center helps organizations to quickly adapt into local business culture through business consulting, partner finding, marketing and translation and secretary support.
On behalf of law firm Kneppelhout & Korthals, Joost Vrancken Peeters, Ady van Nieuwenhuizen and Lin Li gave a key note on the different kinds of IPR, such as trade names, trademarks, patents, design rights and copyrights. Kneppelhout & Korthals offers both legal and business expertise, representing an extensive network in China, and is dedicated to bringing Dutch and Chinese parties closer. The masterclass finished with a workshop and an interactive Q&A with the entrepreneurs present. The mainly Chinese attendees were able to follow the presentation and workshop in both Chinese and English.
At this moment, almost 100 Chinese companies are active in the region. In 2016, the WFIA assisted 16 Chinese companies in setting up their business in The Hague.
